It’s
a mouse… it’s a mouse…
EEK A MOUSE in eindhoven nl.
Sounds
from the lecturer “Eek A Speeka”
Guest-List Vs Press Pass
Well
I thought it would be just another Sunday in eindhoven, one of the most
boring places to be in holland. As I was riding through the town I saw
about four “Rooots” individuals walking in the city centre
heading towards e-town train station. One of them seemed to be a familiar
face from New York City, so I made a detour of my heading to get a better
visual upon this being. Sadly it was not my old college friend Richard.
However, I made some new friends as we greeted each other as fellow
black global travellers. In this introduction of selves, we briefly
exchanged knowledge on the contemptuous discriminations we are constantly
encountering as we go our ways around the World in spreading creative
love. After addressing some of the topics on dutch actions of human
prejudice, the book Artist@Large, Poetic MC, Lyrics, ISBN 0970335318
and “Ama & Talking Tree”, ISBN 0970335261were showed
as counter-effect to the affecting releasing negative energy by the
netherland-netherlanders in their profit marketing for capital economical
gains while conducting unbalance trade games.
Admirations
were given on these publications and the question was posed, if I was
coming to the Eek A Mouse concert at the effenar. In truth I told them
no, because that place has a vibe I don’t like. The negative energy
of discriminations is too great there.
I gave one of my company cards and as we departed in destinations however,
further invitation was given by asking the correct wording of my name
to be placed on the guest list at the effenar. With this energy of acceptance
I decided to attend this concert with the goal of sharing stronger knowledge
on the love of poetry. In so, later that afternoon while at a local
establishment named bakery, I called a fellow poet/rapper/human beat
box master Ghandiman to tell him about the event. In his delight he
made a phone call to place his name on the guest list as well. After
reclaiming my seating position at bakkery, I entered conversation with
two dutch individuals. One revealed that he had a gift from a friend,
which was a free ticket for the Eek A Mouse concert. The other had to
work that night so he was unable to attend the show. The striking irony
was he was doing reading analysis on Edgar Allen Poe. Of which he asked
me to share an interpretive translation on Mr. Poe’s meaning &
usage of these prime words “undress, redress & retribution.
Soon after doing my rounds in the city, I headed back for home. As I
rode on my wife’s bicycle in the cold I had a smile of how life
is sometimes strange and funny. Relaxing now at home, I am telling my
wife and my three-year old daughter about the event of the day and my
intention to go to the effenar’s Eek A Mouse Concert. For the
rest of the day our house was very happy. I played with my pretty wife
and daughter, cooked some wicked ital/vegan dinner. As the evening progress
I got ready to go to the concert. My wife told me to give a little look
on our daughter before I go. The result was Ama got woken up for hugging
and kisses before we said “see you later” to each other
and “love you”. On the last detail of leaving the house,
as the taxicab approached our home, my wife told me to have a good time.

So upon
the fact that my name was not on the guest list, I had already decided
I was still going to the concert even after the ticket clerk extended
his required service by placing a call on my behave about my name being
on the guest list. Sadly his final answer was nothing he could do about
getting me into the effenar that evening after the reply from his above
authority stated no entry. So diplomatically I took charge of my intentions.
After
expressing a desirable situation to one of the effenar’s securities
I was given five minutes to establish contact with the individuals who
invited my person to be in the effenar’s Eek A Mouse concert.
At this time I still did not know where were the individuals who invited
me to this production at the effenar. Within the five minutes, I made
a circle around the dance floor, with a brief stop over by the dj sound
system section which was filling the gap with dutch djs spinning reggae
dancehall 45 selections on the turntable before the live showcasing
of Eek A Mouse. After requested information, I was told the production/management
department of the performance would be backstage. Upon reaching near
the door of the entrance to the backstage, I was directed to an individual
as the band manager. After introducing myself and explaining the reasons
of my intentions the manager told the security guard who so happened
to now standing beside me… “It’s ok for him to be
here tonight”. Duteously, the effenar’s security told the
manager clearance should still be given by the promoter of the effenar’s
Eek A Mouse concert who was stationed in the ticket booth area. So after
more introductions and exchanging of words, my credential was validated
and I was given permission to roam free. It was a delightful experience
overcoming the obstacles of rejections.
As
I met the legendary Eek A Mouse backstage I was reunited with the “Rooots”
individuals I met earlier in the day. They were the instrumentalists
accompanying the vocal of Eek A Mouse… they all came from an amazing
background of musical influences. I was struck at how tall Eek A is…
he is a man of six feet plus that what I would say… he is very
tall. As he peeled his citrus fruit for consumption, I introduced myself
and presented a signed gift copy of the poetry book “Artist@Large,
Poetic MC, Lyrics”. After some photos we talked about the reggae
industry and the new wave of Artists expressing reggae vibes. Given
an adamant reaction on the exploitive nature of the reggae business,
Eek A Mouse and I concluded that many variations of reggae are all aspects
of the one harmony known as reggae music. His insightful creed of thought
was on the new urban artists lacking of contribution in connecting the
dots towards the living history of reggae music. With the new spin on
reggae music artist such as Beyonce and other top cross-over acts in
their usage of reggae icons should put together showcasing collaborations
in the calibre of the original “Three the Hard Way”-Brigadier,
Charlie Chaplin & Josey Wales as to emphasis the true essence in
stimulating a stronger foundation on the global musical reggae culture.
Due to the exploitive nature of the beast I see great sadness in the
connective growth of reggae music, on this level of relating stardom
the beholding factor it seems is like any other creative choice of living
filled with chaos. The beautiful aspect of it all is building the strength
& network to overcome the singularity of meanness. Through the love
of words and music the messaging of the Eek A Mouse and the instrumentalists
were felt as I saw fans eager to get backstage for more autographs after
the encore performance. On-stage the band caused the people to be jumping
with joy as Eek A’s uttered his trademarked sounds of vocalized
acoustic frequency modulations. Like all live showcasing, there are
many small details of unacceptable but overall this performance at the
effenar was rewarding both historically, & educationally.
