Chiropractic by Gillian Elliott, D.C.

D.D. Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, wanted every chiropractor to spread the word of chiropractic. Chiropractic has been misinterpreted from its beginning of the early 1900's till now. To best & serve the chiropractic principle we must first begin by educating the world on chiropractic and all the substance it contains.

Chiropractic means the practice of "hands on". It is not only a science, but and art because we don't become great chiropractors overnight, and also there is the unique philosophy which makes a chiropractor a chiropractor. Chiropractors detect and remove subluxations. These subluxations are removed only by the hands in what is called an adjustment and then we allow our innate intelligence to take over and the body will amazingly heal itself.

How does our body know when to use the restroom, become hungry, run a fever to fight an infection, digest our food after we've eaten. This is what we call our innate intelligence. Every living creature possesses innate intelligence. A subluxation is the misalignment of the spine causing an impingenment on the nerve decreasing communication between the brain and organs, tissues, cells eventually leading to disease.

When our bodies are subluxated we are not healthy because we are not functioning at our maximun and our bodies are not in a balanced state of homeostasis. There are five factors of health and each is equally as important:

  1. Diet - we are originally fruitivores, our food system has evolved some but we should take in foods we are designed to take in.
  2. Exercise regularly
  3. Rest for at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep. Studies show that less sleep the shorter the lifespan.
  4. Chiropractic health - to become subluxation free
  5. and a positive mental attitude

Chiropractors utilize the Central Nervous System to allow the body to heal itself. The Central Nervous System is the most important system and embryologically is the first to develop. The CNS consists of the brain and spinal cord all encased in bone. Like an orthodontist, chiropractic takes time. It takes years for teeth to become straight with the use of braces. It may take a while to become subluxation-free and stay subluxation-free. Now let's all go and get those spines checked out.
